Golden rules of party math
- 1.Plan for one drink per person per hour as a baseline, then adjust up or down for each drinker tier.
- 2.Non-alcoholic options should always outnumber alcoholic ones — even heavy drinkers reach for both.
- 3.Buy 10–15% more than your calculated total. Unopened bottles and cans are easy to return, empty shelves aren't.
- 4.Budget 1–1.5 lbs of ice per guest per hour to cover drinks and coolers without a store run.
- 5.Garnishes and mixers run out faster than the alcohol they pair with — restock limes, mint and tonic before the bar opens.
